came across a far side book while thrift shopping and opened it to a random page only to be reminded that gary larsen is the still the funniest comic artist ever to be published
Kavanaugh didn’t just DARVO his way through yesterday’s hearing:
his bluster, tears, rage, and blame-shifting also allowed him to dodge a
remarkable number of questions raised by the senators.
Ford, by contrast, answered virtually every question put to her.
Vox went through the transcript and painstakingly logged whether each
question raised was addressed. They confirmed the impression that
Kavanaugh was dodging the questions and Ford wasn’t, and produced an excellent interactive graphic that allows us to visualize the both witnesses’ forthrightness and drill down on each question and statement.
If he really wanted this cleared up to prove his innocence, he would have BEGGED for a FBI investigation. There’s all the proof I need.
He’s already been vetted by the FBI. A full investigation would push him out of the process beyond the midterms. There’s literally no crime for the fbi to investigate. Try again.
I don’t even think people don’t even realize how disingenuous that “argument” is. THE FBI DOES NOT AND CANNOT “CLEAR NAMES”.
He’s a judge. He went to law school. He would therefore likely know that even if 100% innocent, it’s not wise to speak to the cops if you don’t have to. Does anybody really believe there’s any scenario where the FBI comes back with some report that convinces the likes of @glitterykryptonitestarfish that he’s not guilty?
man being accused of crimes doesn’t talk to cops while the accuser does talk to cops holy shit what geniuses
As the three continued their work, they noticed something else that was remarkable: again and again one group of people appeared to be particularly unusual when compared to other populations—with perceptions, behaviors, and motivations that were almost always sliding down one end of the human bell curve.
In the end they titled their paper “The Weirdest People in the World?” (pdf) By “weird” they meant both unusual and Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic. It is not just our Western habits and cultural preferences that are different from the rest of the world, it appears. The very way we think about ourselves and others—and even the way we perceive reality—makes us distinct from other humans on the planet, not to mention from the vast majority of our ancestors. Among Westerners, the data showed that Americans were often the most unusual, leading the researchers to conclude that “American participants are exceptional even within the unusual population of Westerners—outliers among outliers.”
Given the data, they concluded that social scientists could not possibly have picked a worse population from which to draw broad generalizations. Researchers had been doing the equivalent of studying penguins while believing that they were learning insights applicable to all birds.
The town is beautiful. It’s called Nördlingen and it is one of the few remaining walled cities in Europe. You can see how it was built in a crater from the shape of it.
